Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc. is putting its money where its flowers are, so to speak.
The nonprofit agency is hosting Main Street in Bloom, which awards residences and businesses on Main Street for beautifying their properties, businesses or homes.
Categories for Business and Residential
Winners will receive cash prizes in two categories: Residential or business.
The public will decide the winners by voting during the Market at the Park on Saturdays.
Top prize is $250 in each category.
Displays may include window boxes, planters, hanging baskets, railing planters and more.
Winners will be announced during Market Day on Saturday, Oct. 1. Additionally, Mainstreet also is looking for groups and volunteers to adopt and maintain areas of the downtown that are not claimed by other entities.
The idea sprouted from local arborist and volunteer Tim McCloud as a way to continue Mainstreet’s vision of making Waynesboro one of the safest, cleanest and greenest downtowns in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
“It was a brilliant idea,” said Bill Kohler, Mainstreet’s director of Economic Development. “Mainstreet had made plans to add more big planters downtown in 2022 and this made sense. People love our baskets and new planters, and we thought this was a great way to include more people in the fun.
“We can’t wait to see the results,” Kohler added.
Letters inviting residents and businesses to participate were mailed out and dropped off in early May.
