Attorney General Dave Sunday has appointed Darryl A. Lawrence as the Interim Consumer Advocate for Pennsylvania. Lawrence will represent state consumers in matters related to the quality and pricing of public utility services while the search for a permanent Consumer Advocate continues.

Previously serving as Senior Assistant Consumer Advocate, Lawrence has been a part of the Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate since June 2005. His role will involve advocacy for fair pricing and high-quality service from public utilities, which include electric, natural gas, water, wastewater, and telecom companies under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission or the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

“I am confident that Darryl has the experience, expertise, and commitment to public service required to represent the best interests of Pennsylvanians,” stated Attorney General Sunday. He emphasized the continuation of an open process to find a qualified permanent appointee.

Lawrence expressed honor in his previous two decades of service, “It has been an honor to serve the consumers of Pennsylvania for the past 20 years in matters involving public utilities. I look forward to continuing the important work of the Office of Consumer Advocate in this new role.”

The Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate, established in 1976 by the General Assembly and housed within the Office of Attorney General, operates independently with the authority to intervene in litigation related to public utilities. The permanent Consumer Advocate, once selected, will require confirmation by the Pennsylvania State Senate.
