Attorneys General Coalition Defends Gender-Affirming Care

Maryland Flag

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown and a coalition of 15 state attorneys general have expressed a renewed commitment to safeguarding access to gender-affirming care, opposing a recent Executive Order by the Trump administration. The coalition, comprising the attorneys general from California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin, collectively condemned the Executive Order for its inaccurate scientific and legal basis.

In a united statement, the attorneys general asserted that health care decisions should be left to patients, their families, and medical professionals rather than being dictated by politicians. They emphasized that gender-affirming care is crucial, life-saving treatment vital for individuals to live authentically.

The group highlighted a significant judicial victory last week where a federal court mandated the continuation of federal funding previously halted by the Trump administration. This court decision ensures that institutions providing gender-affirming care will still receive federal support despite the new Executive Order.

The coalition is prepared to undertake further legal actions if the Trump administration attempts to obstruct this essential funding further. They also vowed to continue enforcing state laws that enable access to gender-affirming care and to oppose any unlawful efforts to restrict such access within their jurisdictions.
