The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has issued a public warning regarding fraudulent phone calls from individuals impersonating deputies or employees of the department.
According to reports, the callers may claim the recipient missed jury duty, has an active arrest warrant, or must make an immediate payment to avoid legal consequences. These scammers may also request personal or financial information.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that these calls are scams. They stated they will never ask for payment over the phone and do not accept gift cards, Venmo, or wire transfers as forms of payment.
Officials advise anyone receiving such a call to hang up immediately and not share any personal information. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and share this warning with others.
