Modern Woodmen awards scholarship to local high school senior
Modern Woodmen of America, Rock Island, Illinois, has awarded McKenna Rosenberry from James Buchanan High School with $10,000 through its annual scholarship competition for high school seniors.
Modern Woodmen’s scholarship program provides more than half a million dollars each year to help members achieve their educational goals. The program includes a scholarship competition for high school seniors and a separate competition for members ages 21 and older.
To be eligible, students must be Modern Woodmen members and be covered by a Modern Woodmen life insurance or annuity product. Applicants also must have completed at least 40 hours of volunteer service in the previous two years.
The fraternal financial services organization awarded 300 scholarships totaling $552,000 to the high school class of 2026 and $70,000 to members 21 and up.
“Our scholarship program directly supports our mission of improving the quality of life for our members and their communities,” says Jason Nickles, Modern Woodmen’s chief fraternal officer. “Education is a cornerstone of personal and professional growth. By helping members pursue their academic goals, we strengthen families and foster leadership within communities.”
McKenna plans to attend Liberty University in the fall to study politics and policy on a pre-law track. In high school, she was drum major of the marching band, a member of the National Honor Society and vice president of Tri-M Music Honor Society.
She also served as president of the Conococheague FFA chapter, earning its scholarship, leadership and community service awards. McKenna was a student representative to the school board, worked part time at Shatzers Orchard and interned with the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office.
