Farm workers and their families, extension educators, and emergency service personnel interested in learning the principles of farm emergency awareness and safety responses can attend an upcoming Penn State Extension workshop.
The “An Incident Just Happened on the Farm: What Should You Do?” workshop will occur from 10-11:30 a.m. Aug. 6, at Newville Lions Club, 433 Shippensburg Road, Newville.
Agriculture is one of the most dangerous occupations, with farmers, farm workers, and family members involved in serious incidents on farms every year, according to organizers.
This awareness program provides practical guidance on recognizing farm-related emergencies, safely assisting an injured person, and summoning help while avoiding additional risk to oneself or others.
Participants will learn:
— How to keep oneself safe while helping the victim of a farm incident.
— Actions to take — and actions to avoid — to positively affect a victim’s well-being.
— How to effectively summon help from emergency services.
— The importance of pursuing additional training, such as first aid, CPR, and Stop the Bleed.
Penn State Extension offers this event free of charge. Organizers encourage attendees to register for the event by Aug. 6.
