By Jeff Richards

McConnellsburg’s boys and girls soccer teams both shut out Northern Bedford County on Sept. 17. The boys won 10-0, and the girls won 3-0.

In the boys game, Tucker Hedge scored after a goalkeeper mishandled Jace Fletcher’s shot. Lincoln McKelvy added a goal a minute later, followed by an own goal from a Callen Mellott corner kick. Hoyt Glenn scored twice and Chris Ebersole once before halftime, giving McConnellsburg a 6-0 lead.

Azeiaha Lucas scored early in the second half. Glenn then headed in a Mellott corner kick and assisted McKelvy’s second goal. Ebersole completed the scoring on a penalty kick. Glenn finished with three goals as the Spartans earned their sixth straight win. McConnellsburg is 7-0 and has outscored opponents 62-10 this season.

In the girls game, Marin DeShong scored from a Gemma Gordon pass shortly after the third minute. Gordon later scored, and Kya Washabaugh converted a chance following a Sydney Buterbaugh corner kick. All three goals came in the first half. Northern Bedford increased its pressure after halftime, but McConnellsburg preserved its fifth shutout and sixth consecutive win. The girls are 6-0 and have outscored opponents 42-2.

The boys host Mount Union on Sept. 21. The girls host Southern Huntingdon County on Sept. 22.
