Dental Assisting students at the Franklin County Career and Technology Center are training with a new digital impression scanner acquired through an equipment grant.
The handheld intraoral scanner captures real-time 3D models of a patient’s teeth and oral tissues. It replaces traditional impression trays and putty molds.
The technology can improve patient comfort, produce high-resolution scans within minutes and reduce errors caused by material distortion. Digital files can also be shared with dental laboratories or integrated with 3D printers and computer-aided design and manufacturing technology.
The scanner is standard equipment used in the dental industry.
