Chambersburg Girls Cross Country Shares Commonwealth Division Title

By Ed Gotwals

Chambersburg’s cross country teams swept Central Dauphin on Tuesday, with the boys earning a 15-46 victory and the girls winning 15-48 in the Trojans’ only home dual meet of the season.

The Chambersburg boys claimed the first five places. Boston Vincenti won in 17:38, followed by Tobias Willson, Cole Lehman, Liam Coy and Chase Goshorn. Gavin Wenger finished eighth and Ben Lin placed ninth. Chambersburg improved to 4-2 overall and in the Mid Penn Commonwealth Division.

The girls’ victory, combined with Carlisle’s win over State College, allowed Chambersburg and State College to share the Commonwealth Division championship. The Trojans finished the dual-meet season at 5-1.

Natalie Quinn led Chambersburg with a winning time of 20:31. Lilly Spohn, Bella Rife, Kaylie Savage and Taliya Raber completed a sweep of the top five positions. Coach Chris Monheim said the team’s 1:38 gap between its first and fifth runners was smaller than usual.

In field hockey, Chambersburg defeated Shippensburg 2-0 for its second consecutive victory and shutout. Libby Leonard scored from a penalty corner in the fourth quarter, and Mia Dortenzo added a goal after collecting the rebound from a Reagan Barrett shot. Goalkeeper Lacey Mooney made several saves to preserve the shutout.

The Chambersburg girls volleyball team lost 3-0 to State College by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 28-26. Kasey Moser recorded 12 kills and 15 digs, while Olivia Shearer added seven kills and two blocks.

The Mid Penn Conference golf championship scheduled for Tuesday was postponed until next Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Range End.
