Child Abuse: Adams County teacher arrested
An Adams County teacher arrested yesterday in connection with a sexual assault on his adopted child. Vincent Paul Marfia, 40, has been charged with sexually abusing the child for four years when the child was between 10 and 14 years of age.
Marfia is a second grade teacher in the Gettysburg School District. He was taken into custody at his Littlestown home on a warrant issued by Magisterial District Judge Daniel Bowman.
- Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, a first degree felony;
- Indecent Assault, a third degree felony;
- Incest, a second degree felony;
- Corruption of Minors, a first degree misdemeanor.
The crimes happened between 2010 and 2014, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Marfia’s arraignment took place in Gettysburg this morning before Adams County Magisterial District Judge Mark Beauchat, who set his bail at $50,000. As of this morning, he was unable to post bail, but by afternoon the bail had been posted. A preliminary hearing takes place January 6 before Judge Beauchat.
Because of his position as a teacher in the Gettysburg School District, police believe there could be additional victims. They ask that anyone with information of such crimes contact them at 717-334-8111.
