MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP — An Alabama woman who led police on a high-speed chase on Buchanan Trail West last weekend faces multiple charges, including a felony.
Serena Alice Nicole Lee, 25, of Florence, Alabama, was arrested Saturday evening, sitting in the car she drove at speeds of up to 125 miles an hour while weaving in and out of traffic on Buchanan Trail West.
Police allege in charging documents that Lee illegally passed other vehicles on both the right and left as she fled from police that evening.
The chase began at about 6 p.m. Saturday after police sitting in a gravel lot at Buchanan Trail West and Heisley Road clocked her black Chevrolet Camero doing 101-miles-an-hour in a 55-mile-an-hour speed zone.
The Pennsylvania State Police trooper pulled onto Buchanan Trail West and activated his lights and siren. Instead of stopping, the Camero’s speed increased, police said in an affidavit filed in the case.
Police said Lee was going 115 miles an hour when she passed another car on the left without using turn signals. She continued east on Buchanan Trail, passing another vehicle on the right shoulder of the roadway. Her speed had reached 120 by that time, the trooper said in his report.
Lee’s speed and erratic driving was also blamed for a crash that disabled a state police cruiser after she turned off Buchanan Trail onto Lamar Road near Greencastle.
Lee was taken into custody, still inside the Camero, in a driveway at 705 Lamar Road.
Police said she had an Alabama drivers license and the car had an Oregon license plate registered to another vehicle.
She is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, a third-degree felony, and recklessly endangering another person, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Lee was also given 12 summary traffic citations, including speeding.
She was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Manns, who set her bail at $1,000. She posted bail through a bail bonds service.
Her preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday, July 16.
