Freshman Ally Weneta (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) became the inaugural Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first season the conference is awarding a Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week, and Weneta is the first player to ever receive the award. The league also still recognizes Athletes of the Week, with Millersville’s Grace Confair earning the award for the Eastern Division.
Weneta recorded double-digit saves in each of the first two games of the season for the Raiders, totaling 22 saves while recording a .550 save percentage and a 9.57 goals-against average (GAA).
Weneta made 12 saves in a 15-6 win over Georgian Court. She also had a hand in several other stops for the Raiders. SU allowed just six goals to Georgian Court this season. They allowed 19 to the Lions last season in a loss.
In a 14-13 overtime loss to IUP, Weneta finished with 10 saves. Her 22 saves made the record book as the second-most recorded by a league goalkeeper through the first two games of a season.
Weneta is the first SU player named a PSAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week since Gayle Kuntzmann on April 7, 2010.
