Anthony Brown Appoints Adileh Sharieff to Hate Crimes Commission

In an official announcement today, Attorney General Anthony Brown appointed Adileh Sharieff to the Maryland Commission on Hate Crime Response and Prevention. The commission is tasked with crafting strategies to combat hate crimes and evaluating state laws pertinent to this issue.

This decision comes amid a surge in hate crime reports across the state, notably including anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian incidents. With her extensive background in community service and social equity, Ms. Sharieff is expected to enhance the commission’s efforts in addressing hate in educational and communal settings.

Ms. Sharieff hails from Montgomery County, where she has previously served on the Board of Trustees for the Islamic Center of Maryland. She remains an active volunteer at the center, focusing on social services and outreach. Her recent endeavors include a co-chair position with the Muslim Cohort of the Montgomery County Council Anti-Hate Task Force and collaborations with various organizations to tackle food insecurity.

Ms. Sharieff’s appointment is in an acting capacity, pending confirmation by the Senate during the 2025 legislative session.
