An armed robbery took place in a parking lot at a local motel parking lot early Wednesday morning, Chambersburg Police Department reported. Police also recently identified the driver who crashed into Memorial Square Dec. 2, causing extensive damage to the fountain.
Memorial Fountain Crash
Police received the results of a blood alcohol test in the Memorial Square crash Dec. 17. They plan to charge the driver, Gary Hummel, 40, of Pottsville, with driving under the influence, highest rate, and traffic offences.
Meanwhile, Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg, charged Hummel with a summary offense of causing an accident resulting in damage to unattended vehicles or property just a few minutes before the Memorial Square crash. His vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run crash near the Lincoln Way East Days Inn a short time earlier.
He entered a guilty plea to that charge Wednesday. Magisterial District Judge Kelly Rock levied a $445 fine, giving him a month to pay it.
Chambersburg police are investigating an armed robbery in which two men approached an occupied vehicle at the Wayne Avenue Econo Lodge, aimed handguns at the occupants and robbed them.
The victims told police the robbers came up to the vehicle at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, one on each side of the vehicle. They demanded the victim’s property, took their cell phones and money and fled.
Police are looking for a man wearing a dark gray hoodie another wearing a black hoodie. Both had masks on covering their entire face, with the hoods covering their heads.
