Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday is urging residents to ensure they are obtaining GLP-1 drugs from licensed pharmacies, warning of an increase in counterfeit versions of the popular weight loss and diabetes medications.
GLP-1 receptor agonists, including Mounjaro, Zepbound, Ozempic, and Wegovy, have surged in popularity, leading to widespread shortages. These shortages have contributed to the rise of counterfeit products, often originating from foreign sources.
Attorney General Sunday recently joined a multistate coalition in calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take stronger action against the counterfeit drug market. He is urging the FDA to use its full authority to investigate, inspect, and enforce protections for consumers.
Consumers are encouraged to report suspicious GLP-1 products to both the FDA and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.
