Betty Dessie Sipes Miller 1925-2023

Betty Dessie Sipes Miller (Ficks ), 98, of Chambersburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the Shook Home surrounded by her family.

Born March 5, 1925 in McConnellsburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Harry D. and Stella Schooley Ficks. Her beloved husband, Kenneth Miller, preceded her in death in 1990.

Betty was raised on a farm and canned foods from her garden. She dedicated most of her life to making a home for her family. She was employed for several years at the Stanley Company in Chambersburg. Betty enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, singing gospel hymns, babysitting and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three children, Barbara Newcomer (Chuck) of Waynesboro, Robert I. Miller (Bonnie) of Chambersburg, and Tonia K. Miller (John) of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren, Donald Sechrist, Kelly Althoff, Johnathan Champion, Micaela Champion, Ty Miller, Robyn Kohler, Brenda Melody and Michelle Miller; ten great grandchildren; and four siblings, Donald Ficks of Chambersburg, Audrey Clever of Mercersburg, Laytha Clever of Mercersburg, and Patsy Pluta of MI.

Aside from her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by three infant sons; one daughter, Dixie L. Sechrist; and seven siblings, Lewis Ficks, Hubert Ficks, Shelvey Clever, Esta Deshong, Evelyn Schooley, Pearl Mills, and Junior Ficks.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Harbor Light Temple 537 Hood Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Andy Ficks will officiate.

Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
