Betty Wescott Williams 1938~2020


Mrs. Betty Wescott Williams, 82, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Saturday morning, October 10, 2020 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born March 4, 1938 in Two Rivers, WI, she was the daughter of the late Carlyle Jennings and Gudrun (Hanson) Wescott.

Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Granby High School (VA) with the Class of 1956. She received her Nursing degree from De Paul Hospital School of Nursing (VA). She later received her Nurse Anesthesia degree from Norfolk General Hospital (VA).

She eagerly volunteered to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Serving during 1967 and 1968, she attained the rank of Captain and in addition to Vietnam, she was stationed in Italy and Germany before returning home to the United States.

Mrs. Williams was a certified registered nurse anesthetist for over 40 years. During her career, she worked 12 years at the Waynesboro Hospital and for over 20 years at the Gettysburg Hospital where she retired in 2005.

She was a proud lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America where she received countless awards and honors for her many years of dedicated service. She was also the past president of the Garden Club and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church of Waynesboro PA.

Beyond her love of family, Mrs. Williams enjoyed crafting, scrapbooking and her many rose gardens.

She is survived by her sister Judith Wescott Hicks Brooks of Norfolk VA, son James Carlyle and Faye Marie Williams of Waynesboro PA, son Joseph Wellington and Emily Dianne Williams and grandson Wellington Wescott Williams of Tarboro NC, and honorary son Donald Wayne Funkhouser of Waynesboro PA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Gordon Hanson and her sister Charlotte Wescott Wheeler.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2020 in the outdoor pavilion at Otterbein Community Park, 13375 Welty Road, Waynesboro PA, with Reverend Scott Johnston officiating.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, in the pavilion.
