SU men's basketball: Biss is PSAC Athlete of Week

Biss averaged 17.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists in a 3-0 week.

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division’s league office named Shippensburg University graduate Jake Biss (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) the Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week Monday.

In road wins at Clarion (70-61), Pitt-Johnstown (76-62) and No. 6 IUP (72-60), he averaged 17.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. The Raiders handed the first conference loss of the year to both Johnstown and Indiana.

Biss was especially productive in the weekend road wins at UPJ and IUP, scoring 20 points and making five three-pointers in both games.

At Johnstown, he also had a team-high five assists along with five rebounds, He made each of his last four three-point attempts and all four of his field-goal attempts in the second half.

At Indiana, he scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half, including 4-of-5 from three-point range in the second half. He matched his career high with eight rebounds, handed out four assists, and was 5-of-5 at the free-throw line.

As one of the team’s primary ballhandlers, Biss committed just five turnovers in 109 minutes of action on the week.

It is the first PSAC weekly award of the season for Biss and the sixth of his career. He is the first Raider named the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week since he was last honored on Jan. 27, 2020.
