Blue Ridge Beef Recalls Kitten Mix Pet Food Over Salmonella Risks

Blue Ridge Beef has initiated a recall of approximately 1,350 pounds of their Kitten Mix pet food, packaged in 2 lb logs, due to Salmonella contamination. The affected product is identified by Lot Number N25-0716 with UPC 854298001436. The recall follows a positive test for Salmonella, reported by the FDA on January 3, 2025.

Salmonella can affect both animals consuming the product and humans handling it. Symptoms in humans may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Severe cases can lead to arterial infections, endocarditis, and other serious health issues. Consumers experiencing such symptoms are advised to contact their healthcare providers.

Pets infected with Salmonella may show lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some may only exhibit decreased appetite and abdominal pain. Infected pets can also be carriers, potentially infecting other animals or humans.

The contamination was confirmed after a sample collected by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture Resources on December 12, 2024, tested positive for Salmonella. The recall affects products distributed between July 18 and July 26, 2024, across several states including Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled Kitten Mix are urged to return it to the place of purchase or safely dispose of it to prevent access by children, pets, and wildlife. Additionally, consumers are advised to wash and sanitize any containers or utensils that have come into contact with the recalled product.

For more information, consumers can contact Blue Ridge Beef at 704-873-2072 or via email at blueridgebeefnc@yahoo.com. This recall is conducted in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration.
