BCA-CV event: Breast cancer survivors car parade set

Breast cancer survivors, their families and community supporters gather at Hagerstown Community College Oct. 15 for Breast Cancer Awareness Cumberland Valley’s (BCA-CV) 33rd Annual Step ‘N Stride Walk and Breast Cancer Survivor Car Parade.

Thanks to the longtime support of two local large businesses, AC&T and Super Shoes, along with other businesses, BCA-CV will raise money to serve breast cancer patients and their families.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. outside of the ARCC and opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tom Riford, BCA-CV board member, and Ryan Smetzer, friend of the organization, co-emcee the event. Local dignitaries will be in attendance to present a “Breast Cancer Awareness Month Proclamation.”

“For over 30 years, Step ‘N Stride has been a signature event for the tri-state area; attracting hundreds of breast cancer survivors, patients, family members, and community supporters. This fundraiser is critical to the work we do. We are especially grateful for both AC&T and Super Shoes for being fundraising pillars of this event, always inspiring others to support BCA however they can” said Stacy Horst, BCA-CV’s Executive Director.

Over 200 individuals are already registered for this year’s walk; and over 50 local breast cancer survivors registered for the survivor parade. Each year, this event raises close to $150,000 – all of which stays in our local community to assist our residents.

BCA-CV provides early detection and after diagnosis support programs in Southern Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. All programs are completely free to local individuals and their families. With the funds raised each year at Step ‘N Stride, BCA-CV has been able to expand programs to serve even more patients.
