A 42-year-old Carlisle man has been charged in connection with a violent assault that occurred on November 7 at the Seven Gables Apartments on Buchannon Drive.
Carlisle Police responded to the complex around 11:45 a.m. for a report of an assault. Officers found the victim in the stairwell, going in and out of consciousness with severe head injuries.
Witnesses told police that the suspect, identified as Odudu Albert Ukpanah, had assaulted the victim on the stairs, then choked her while repeatedly striking her head against the cement floor. According to police, Ukpanah fled the scene when witnesses appeared but returned moments later to continue the assault before officers arrived.
The victim was transported by emergency medical services to a hospital for treatment of her injuries. Ukpanah was located in a nearby apartment and taken into custody.
He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Rogers on charges of Attempted Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault of Unborn Child, and Strangulation, and is being held at Cumberland County Prison without bail.
Carlisle Police thanked the North Middleton Police Department, witnesses, and citizens for their assistance.
Ukpanah is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
