Carlos Carter named PSAC Eastern Division Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week

Shippensburg University senior Carlos Carter (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week Monday by the league office.

Carter’s week featured a near triple-double of 23 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists, which he posted during SU’s 87-80 victory at Kutztown Feb. 8. His 13 rebounds against the Golden Bears set a new career-high benchmark, while his 8 assists tied his previous career best.

He also blocked three shots in that game, including a vital rejection late in the second half that helped seal the win.

For the week, Carter averaged 22.7 points, 8.7 boards, three assists, and 39.3 minutes played in three Raider victories.

Carter scored 23 points on 8-of-16 (50%) shooting in SU’s 84-68 victory over PSAC East contenders West Chester Feb. 6.

He logged 41 minutes and scored 22 points to help SU stave off a strong upset bid from the Mansfield Mountaineers Feb. 11 on the road, 80-79.

Overall, he shot 49% from the field and 92.9% from the foul line during the three-game stretch.

Carter has scored 20 or more points in three straight and 10 of his last 18 outings. He currently ranks second in the PSAC in scoring at 18.4 points per game.

The award marks the second time this season Carter has been recognized by the conference. He previously picked up the PSAC Eastern Division Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week nod on Jan. 30.
