Celebrate First Lady Harriet Lane: A Garden Party Tea

On June 10, 12:30-3 PM, the Franklin County Visitors Bureau is hosting a special event to honor Harriet Lane, the First Lady of Franklin County. Born in Mercersburg and raised by her uncle, fifteenth President James Buchanan, Harriet Lane served as the First Lady of the nation from 1857 to 1861. To celebrate her contributions, the Visitors Bureau is inviting the public to a Garden Party Tea at James Buchanan Pub.

Guests will also be treated to a delicious menu of finger sandwiches, including Egg Salad, Cucumber, and Special Chicken Salad, along with a variety of sweet treats such as Fruit, Petit Four, Scone, and Muffin. Attendees can also choose between a Mimosa or Non-alcoholic Sparkling Cider. Each attendee will receive a compilation of articles about Harriet Lane written by Joan McCulloh and a keepsake teacup.

The cost per person is $35, which includes the historical presentation, food, and beverages. The Garden Party Tea will be held at the James Buchanan Pub, which is located in Harriet Lane’s hometown of Mercersburg.
