State Representative Chad Reichard has voted against House Bill 1459, which proposes more than doubling Pennsylvania’s minimum wage and allowing counties to set their own wage rates.
Reichard expressed concern that the legislation would create complications for businesses and workers, particularly in areas like Shippensburg, which spans two counties and could face differing wage requirements.
He noted that many Franklin County businesses already pay above the proposed $15-per-hour rate and argued that wages should be set by the market, not the government. Reichard also warned that a significant wage hike could reduce job opportunities for teenagers and negatively impact small businesses by driving up costs and limiting growth.
