Chambersburg Area Sports Boosters Create Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Chambersburg Area Sports Boosters (CASB) are excited to announce the creation of the CASB Male and Female Athlete of the Year endowed scholarships through a collaborative effort with the Chambersburg Area School District Foundation. CASB’s $15,000 gift enables the Foundation to create an investment fund with the annual income supporting these specific athletic scholarships in perpetuity, recognizing the most extraordinary male and female student athletes who have demonstrated elite success in two sports, who have achieved a 3.0 GPA, who have shown a genuine commitment to community service as well as leadership on and off the athletics stage.

A New Scholarship

This newly endowed scholarship was funded through proceeds of the 2022 Annual Peach Bowl Football Kickoff event, whose success was in large part due the commitment and vision of CASD’s athletic director, Ron Coursey. Ron’s commitment to making Chambersburg a better sports community is demonstrated by his work to bring signature events that combine our top-notch sports facilities and the winning culture of Trojan athletics. Acting Superintendent Kurt Widmann shared “This is a great opportunity for student athletes of CASD to be recognized and awarded for their efforts. We are grateful for CASB and CASD Foundation’s partnership.”

“The cost of higher education continues to increase – whether a student has a full athletic or academic scholarship to college or no scholarship at all – the expenses they face nearly always surpass what those awards, grants or student loans will cover – most of these financial tools only cover tuition and room and board – not books, not transportation, not access to the internet or other related necessary expenses like food and clothing. CASB’s vision is to help to relieve the burden on our Trojan student athletes pursuing the next level of success in their lives through these supplemental awards,” stated CASB President Eric Walker.

The Chambersburg Area Sports Boosters was created in 2005 to advocate for and to represent CASD student athletes through a unified organization. The CASD Foundation, founded in 1991, advances educational opportunities by securing and providing independent support that enhances student academic and career development. The CASD Foundation is pleased to be a partner in this wonderful opportunity to financially assist student athletes as part of their higher education matriculation and looks forward to including these new awards in the 2023 Night of the Stars event as well as assisting CASB in their ongoing fundraising efforts for this endowed fund. All gifts are tax-deductible as eligible by law. Those who wish to donate may send their gift to 435 Stanley Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201 c/o CASB Scholarship. Online gifts may be made here:
