Chambersburg, Greencastle Prepare for Friday Football Matchups

by Ed Gotwals

Chambersburg will host Cedar Cliff in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Friday at 7 p.m. at Trojan Stadium. Both teams enter the game 0-2. The Trojans lost 38-0 to State College last week, while the Colts fell 54-14 to Harrisburg.

Cedar Cliff quarterback Jalen Hinton has completed 17 of 31 passes for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Tight end Blake Secrest has seven receptions for 184 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Landon Howell has gained 121 yards on 29 carries. Howell rushed for 120 yards in Cedar Cliff’s 35-7 victory over Chambersburg last season.

Chambersburg coach Gary Carter said the Trojans have about eight starters sidelined by injuries. Quarterbacks Cam Green and Jashaun Palmer both played last week. Green has passed for 314 yards, while Palmer leads the team with 133 receiving yards. Malachi Tasker has 80 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Greencastle-Antrim will travel to Mercersburg for a non-league game against James Buchanan at 7 p.m. Friday. The Blue Devils are 1-1 following a 30-14 loss to South Western. James Buchanan is also 1-1 after losing 41-6 to Northeastern.

James Buchanan is playing its first season in the South Central Athletic League. Greencastle coach Jason Thurston identified Christian Pine, Hunter Egli, Shawn Fisher, Brock Martin and Zack Stoner as key Rockets players. He said Greencastle must account for James Buchanan’s varied offensive formations and establish control early.

Greencastle quarterback Gavin Logsdon has thrown for 203 yards and three touchdowns. Spencer Long has 108 rushing yards and has also caught a 70-yard touchdown pass. Wyatt Hull has 100 receiving yards, two touchdowns and two blocked field goals.

Both games will be streamed on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
