Chambersburg Hosts Carlisle; Greencastle Faces Milton Hershey

by Ed Gotwals

Chambersburg hosts Carlisle for Homecoming at Trojan Stadium in a 7 p.m. Mid Penn Commonwealth matchup. Both teams enter at 1-5 overall and 1-4 in division play after Chambersburg lost 19-14 to Altoona and Carlisle fell 70-0 to Harrisburg.

Both teams earned their lone victories against Central Dauphin. Chambersburg defeated Carlisle 6-0 last season.

Trojans coach Gary Carter emphasized containing Carlisle’s running game and mobile quarterback, limiting mistakes and creating turnovers. Chambersburg has two interceptions and no fumble recoveries this season. Carter praised Deakon Snavely, Mason Mowen and Seth Gilliam for their defensive performances against Altoona. Snavely leads the team with 70 tackles, while quarterback Justin Deneen has thrown for 618 yards and five touchdowns without an interception.

Greencastle-Antrim hosts Milton Hershey on Friday at 7 p.m. in Mid Penn Colonial action. The Blue Devils are 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the division following a 28-21 victory over previously unbeaten West Perry. Milton Hershey enters at 2-4 and 2-1.

Greencastle ranks No. 11 in the District 3 Class 4A standings. Coach Jason Thurston wants a balanced offense while continuing to involve Spencer Long, who has rushed for 450 yards and seven touchdowns.

Thurston credited his defensive line’s pressure against West Perry. Wyatt Hull’s sack of Hayden Fleisher on the final play secured the victory. Greencastle has also focused on tackling in space as it prepares for Milton Hershey. THE SPORTS PAGE
