CHAMBERSBURG SHADE TREE COMMISSION RECEIVES GRANT FOR TREES

The Borough of Chambersburg Shade Tree Commission is pleased to be a grantee of Tree Pennsylvania’s Bare Root Tree Program. Twelve trees were received and planted at Nicholson Square Park, Mill Creek Acres Park, and in tree pits downtown. Volunteers and members of the Shade Tree Commission planted the trees the week of November 6, 2023.

The Shade Tree Commission was established by Town Council and consists of five volunteer members who have exclusive custody and control of shade trees in the Borough, which are planted or growing on any public street right-of-way under the control of the Borough. They also provide public education on tree planting and care.

Chambersburg is a member of Tree City USA. The Tree City USA program has been greening-up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees. More than 3,400 communities have made the commitment to becoming a Tree City USA. Trees benefit all members of our community.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
