A Chambersburg man with a 20-year criminal record is in Franklin County jail today accused of heading a drug trafficking ring smuggling opioids into Franklin County.

David Bruce Darby, 41, faces multiple charges, including drug delivery resulting in death.

In addition to Darby, 11 others face similar charges in the case.

Attorney General Josh Shapiro said agents from his office, Pennsylvania State Police and local police departments took part in the investigation that took down what he calls “a major Pennsylvania trafficker of the opioid Oxycodone.”

Shapiro said Darby smuggled Oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance, from New York City and distributed the drug in Franklin and Cumberland counties.

Shapiro said delivery of the narcotic last August by Darby to Kayla Bertone, 28, of Chambersburg, lead to Bertone’s death.
