Charles E “Earl” Young Sr., 88, of Greencastle, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at his home.

Born September 3, 1933 in Greencastle, he was a son of the late Paul A. and Helen Hays Young.

Earl was a 1951 graduate of Greencastle Antrim High School. A US Navy veteran, he served honorably with CV-32 on board the Aircraft Carrier Leyte. He was employed as a clerk with USPS in Greencastle until his retirement in 1992.

Earl was a Past Commander of the VFW Post 6319, a member of the American Legion Post 373, and life member of Rescue Hose Company #1, all in Greencastle. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing pool. Earl also enjoyed helping people whenever possible.

He is survived by three children, Charles E. Young, Jr. of Malden MA, Linda Martocchio of Malden MA, Paul Young (wife Cynthia) of Greencastle and Gary Morganthal, Jr. (wife Sarah) of Waynesboro; two step-children, Sue Parsons (husband Jody) of Greencastle, and David Morganthal (wife Terrie) of Naples, FL; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and two siblings, Peggy Baker and Robert Young, both of Greencastle.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Young, son Gary Morganthal, Sr.; five siblings, Joan Weller, Joe Young, James Young, Jane Marshall and Evelyn Wagner; and his good friend and brother-in-law, Buck Weller.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Shank’s Church of the Brethren Cemetery where graveside military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. Rev. David Rawley will officiate.

A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Antrim Brethren In Christ Church, 24 Kauffman Road East, Chambersburg, PA 17202.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
