Cumberland County Residents Targeted by Jury Duty Phone Scam

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving false claims of missed jury duty.

According to the sheriff’s office, individuals have reported receiving calls from someone posing as a representative of the office. The caller falsely claims the recipient has missed jury duty and threatens them with felony or misdemeanor charges unless a fee is paid.

Officials emphasized that the sheriff’s office does not make such calls on behalf of the courts and will never request payment over the phone.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call is advised not to share personal information or send money. Instead, residents should contact the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office directly at 717-240-6390 to verify the legitimacy of the call.
