Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Issues Scam Alert

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving false claims of missed jury duty.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, community members have reported receiving calls from individuals pretending to represent the office. The callers falsely claim that the recipient missed jury duty and threaten felony or misdemeanor charges unless a fee is paid.

Officials stressed that the Sheriff’s Office does not make phone calls of this nature on behalf of the courts and does not request payment through Bitcoin or gift cards.

Residents who receive suspicious calls are advised not to provide personal information or payment. Instead, they should contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at 717-240-6390 to verify the legitimacy of any communication.
