They truly honored the vows they made to each other in 1976, in Hagerstown, MD; “For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part”. They were always there for each other, and after, Daniel’s stroke, several months ago, Jenny was by his side, taking the best care of him, and loving him as she promised she would do, 47 years ago.

Daniel was born on February 6, 1942, at home, in Worleytown. He was the son of the late Daniel “Ray” Hawbaker, Sr., and Edith Catherine (Myers) Hawbaker.

As a young boy, he attended Sunrise, a one room schoolhouse in Worleytown. He worked as a carpenter for Tucker &Tex Myers in his early years, before gaining employment as a truck driver. Over the years, he drove truck for Martin-Marietta Trucking, Grimms Trucking, and retired from SL Rhoton, Inc., in 2004.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Known as “Pappy D” to his grandchildren, whom he adored! He loved spending time outdoors, especially when he was hunting, fishing or gardening.

He was a lifetime member of the Mercersburg Sportsman’s Association, and a member of Kane Lodge 130 Loyal Order of Moose, in Kane, PA.

Daniel also enjoyed occasionally going to Rocky Gap to do a little gambling when he could. Above all he loved time spent with his family. He was a jokester who loved making people laugh. “Tally Ho!”, he would call as you were walking out the door. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him!

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Kim Harbaugh, Hagerstown, MD, Danny Ray Hawbaker, and his wife, Cris, of Waynesboro, PA, Traci Creager, and her husband, Dave, of St. Thomas, PA; seven grandchildren: Tabitha and Fantasia of Waynesboro, Ricky, of Hagerstown, Alyssa and Daniellerae of Waynesboro, Walker of Hagerstown, and Karlie of St. Thomas; six great-grandchildren: Miles, Aubrey, Otto, Sebastian, Olivia, and Ina, all of Waynesboro; a sister, Betty Lee Hawbaker of Greencastle, and a brother, Bobby Hawbaker, and his wife, Judy of Mercersburg, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m., until 8 p.m., on Monday, March 20th, at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. Greencastle.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2023, in Macedonia Church Cemetery, Worleytown, with Rev. Gayle L. Ruble, Sr., officiating.

Online condolences may be expressed at the funeral home’s website.
