Dean D Rosenberry 96, of Willow Hill, PA, passed away peacefully at Orrstown Personal Care on December 4, 2021, having lived life to its absolute fullest.
Dean was born November 17, 1925, in Pleasant Hall, Pennsylvania to the late David Raymond and Mary Ann (Hoover) Rosenberry.
After graduating Fannettsburg High School in 1943, Dean served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
In 1950, Dean married Vera LaRue Goshorn who preceded him in death on July 13, 2019.
Dean was a member of the Spring Run United Methodist Church. As young man, he helped lay the stonework for the church building.
Dean felt most at home in the mountain, preferably Bear and Horse Valley. After returning from Army service, Dean worked for his dad hauling lumber. But his real calling came when he became employed by the Bureau of Forestry, Buchanan State Forest, Bear Valley, retiring in 1986 after 25 years of service. Many wonderful memories and countless stories can be told by those who knew this beautiful forest and the man who took care of it.
Dean lived life on his terms and what a great life he had. There was nothing he wouldn’t try at least once. Throughout his life he traveled annually to Canada fishing for walleye at Brunswick Lake Lodge with family and friends. He also loved to golf and did so until a young 90 years old.
Hunting was a passion for him as well, enjoying cabin life in the mountain. There were so many other sports; bowling, darts, pool, cards, all at which he was good at and many of the years with sight in only one eye. He was a character and will sorely be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Dean was the oldest member and past commander (1954) of American Legion McCartney Post #232. Dean was also a member of Orrstown Masonic Lodge No. 262 F & AM, Valley Forest #145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon and Hub City Club, Shippensburg.
Dean is survived by the source of his greatest joy and the loving family who got to call him Dad, Pap Dean or Pappy. Son, Michael D. (Gail) of Orrstown, PA; daughter, Pamela S (Dan) Young, Manassas, VA; Grandchildren, Brooke (Chris) Nordai, Harrisburg, PA; Lindsay (Chris) Cicconi, Baltimore, MD; Carmen Young, Tucson, AZ; Cameron Young, Augusta, GA and Great-Grandchildren, Ava and Maxwell Nordai, Harrisburg, PA and Gemma Cicconi, Baltimore, MD.
