Dining Through the Eyes of Someone Visually Impaired

Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania is inviting you to, An Evening in the Shadows, Thursday, November 6, 2025. This blindness awareness event offers an uncommon and extraordinary evening of dining for participants, as they savor a menu created exclusively for the evening, enjoy selected pairings of wines, and experience a small sample of life without vision.

This will be the fourteenth Shadows event and will take place at the beautiful King Mansion in Harrisburg, overlooking the Susquehanna. The evening begins with a toast and greeting after all the guests have arrived. Participants are then aided in donning lightweight blindfolds and assisted to assigned tables and seats in the polite manner that blind individuals would be guided.

Throughout the evening there is live musical entertainment in the background and between
courses information about blindness, low vision, major eye diseases, and the services of Vision Resources are shared with the guests. There will also be an opportunity to participate in a “blind” raffle that will take place near the conclusion of the evening. Attendees have remarked that no other awareness event has heightened their appreciation and understanding of an impairment or disease like, An Evening in the Shadows.

Tickets are $100 each and can be purchased at: www.vrocp.org. Seating is purposely limited to ensure an enlightening and memorable evening for all. Ticket sales will end October 20, 2025.
Proceeds will support the mission of Vision Resources to provide services for the blind and visually impaired in Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, and Perry Counties. To learn more visit www.vrocp.org or call 717-238-2531. Please join Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania for this unique evening of fine dining, thank you!

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
