Donald R Altman Sr., 86, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at his home.

He was born on October 4, 1936, in Erie, PA, to the late Howard Robert and Ruth Carlton Altman.

Don served his country honorably in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He spent most of his career as a dedicated sales rep, and after moving to Gettysburg, he and his wife Rose Marie owned and operated the Homestead Motor Lodge along Route 30 East.

Don was a loving family man and enjoyed flying single-engine airplanes, kayaking, and taking daily walks with his dog on the battlefield, weather permitting.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years, Rose Marie Altman, as well as his four children: Kathleen DeGerolamo and her husband Richard of Bonneauville, PA, Donna Sweesy and her husband Greg of Gettysburg, PA, Donald R. Altman, Jr. and his wife Angela of Gettysburg, PA, and Daniel R. Altman and his wife Anna of Baltimore, MD., and seven grandchildren: Natalie Altman, Donald Altman, III and his wife Jennifer, Laura Gutshall and her husband Samuel, Jeffrey Altman and his wife Rachael, Jason Altman and his wife Katelyn, Danielle Altman and Jessica Altman. Don is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Altman and James Altman, and his sister, Marian Roake.

A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Monahan Funeral Home.
