She attended Sims High School. Dorothy relocated her family from Union, SC to Philadelphia, PA in 1970.

Dorothy earned her living as a child care worker, educator, and dietary aid. In 2013, she moved to Chambersburg, PA where she lived until she departed this life and entered her eternal home on Friday, September 3, 2021 surrounded by her sons, Marvin and Jeff, her daughter-in-law, Linda, and granddaughter, Tayla.

She was the mother of seven children whom she loved very much. Her sons, Douglas Worthy and Robert Worthy, preceded her in death. She also earned the title of “mom” from countless other children in the community and her home was a safe haven for them all.

Dorothy was raised in the church and gave her life to Christ at an early age. As a former member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA, she served as a deaconess, usher, choir member, and as a volunteer in the daycare. For the last eight years, she was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

Dorothy extended her service into her community as a camp counselor, teacher’s aide for Head Start, community organizer, youth advocate, and member of the board of directors for E. Luther Cunningham Community Center. Dorothy believed if given the right opportunity, any child could succeed in life. Therefore, she worked tirelessly to connect children to programs and resources that would maximize their potential and ensure their success.

Dorothy will be remembered by her children as a loving disciplinarian, no nonsense, yet selfless mom who made many sacrifices on their behalf. They also remember her love for cooking, singing, dancing, laughing, and doing word such puzzles. She will be remembered by the neighborhood children for her encouraging words, support, and kind deeds that she bestowed on so many. Her friends know her best for her sense of humor, loyalty, and willingness to listen and help.

Left to cherish these memories are her five children, Sharon (Mitch) Worthy, Michael Worthy, Lisa (Lawrence) Jones, Marvin (Linda) Worthy, and Jeffery (Michelle) Worthy; seven grandchildren, Kim Worthy, Travis Worthy, LaToya Rice, Dontay Wright, Jade Coley Alston, Maya Worthy, and Tayla Worthy; seven great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren; one brother, Henry Beaty; and three nieces and two nephews and host of cousins.

Her grandson, Willis Worthy, and siblings, Lena Worthy, Robert Worthy, Roosevelt Worthy, Leroy Worthy, Mary Worthy, and Ruth Everett preceded her in death.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Central Presbyterian Church. There will be a visitation at 10 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. The family is requiring masks.
