Downtown Chambersburg Buzzing with Activity: Events Galore May 16–18 and Beyond!

Downtown Chambersburg is the place to be this week with a packed calendar of events that includes live music, language classes, vintage car shows, comedy, magic, and a roaring good time at a themed gala — all leading up to the highly anticipated opening of the North Square Farmers Market on Memorial Day weekend.

The celebration kicks off Friday, May 16, with live music from the Drew Cooke Band at 7:00 PM at the Hopyard at GearHouse Brewing Company.

On Saturday, May 17, the community can enjoy a full day of enriching classes at Coyle Free Library (102 N. Main Street), including:

  • 9:00 AM – Beginning Spanish
  • 10:00 AM – Intermediate/Advanced Spanish
  • 12:00 PM – Beginning German
  • 1:00 PM – Beginning Guitar

Saturday evening, the entertainment continues with three major events:

  • 36th Annual Comedy & Magic Spectacular presented by the Chambersburg Exchange Club at 7:00 PM at Capitol Theatre
  • Roaring 20s Gala: Prohibition at the Old Jail at 6:30 PM, hosted by the Franklin County Historical Society
  • More live music at GearHouse Brewing Co.’s Hopyard with Sons of Pitches at 7:00 PM

The weekend fun rolls on Sunday, May 18, with GearHouse Brewing Co.’s popular Cruise & Brews (and Brunch!) Monthly Car Show starting at 10:00 AM. Classic cars, local brews, and delicious brunch offerings make this a can’t-miss event.

Looking ahead to Memorial Day Weekend, North Square Farmers Market kicks off its season on Saturday, May 24, at 8:00 AM. Visitors can expect fresh produce, baked goods, coffee, handmade items, and the lively atmosphere that makes this market a beloved community tradition.

“Downtown Chambersburg is alive with energy, creativity, and community spirit,” said Sam Thrush, President of Downtown Chambersburg, Inc. “These events are a great example of what makes our downtown a premier destination for both residents and visitors. There’s something for everyone — and we invite the entire region to come experience it with us.”

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
