Shippensburg University’s Drew Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office after his record-setting performance at Penn State.
Dailey established a new PSAC record for the indoor 800 meters by running 1:49.49 on Saturday at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge. With that performance, Dailey became the first man in PSAC history to eclipse the 1:50 mark indoors.
The run broke both his own school record (1:50.88 at last year’s Sykes & Sabock Challenge) and the all-time conference record of 1:50.62 set in 2007 by IUP’s Sean Strauman.
Dailey now ranks fifth in the nation this season in the 800 meters and puts him in an extremely strong position to reach the NCAA Indoor Championships in the event.
It is Dailey’s second career weekly indoor award; he was honored last season (Feb. 1) after he first broke the school record in the 800 meters at the 2022 Sykes & Sabock Challenge. It is his fifth overall weekly award, as he has also been honored three times outdoors.
It is the third Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award for the Raiders this season; Eric Kirk was honored on Dec. 5 and Jan. 23.
