Dustin Sleva ’18 makes history with UCAM Murcia

Dustin Sleva, a former SHIP player, is excelling in European basketball as a key player for UCAM Murcia in Spain’s Liga Endesa. His team has made it to the league’s final for the first time, facing Real Madrid in a best-of-five series. Murcia, notably the first fifth seed to reach the final, won all their playoff games away from home. In the decisive semifinal game against Unicaja, which they won 79-70, Sleva was a standout, leading in minutes and rebounds, contributing significantly to the team’s victory. Sleva, who was named Liga Endesa Rookie of the Year, has averaged 9.7 points and 4.8 rebounds across 42 league games this season. His journey to this point has been marked by resilience, having been cut from a team in Paris and subsequently playing for a last-place team in Germany before joining Murcia. Sleva’s success at Murcia mirrors his time at SHIP, where he became the all-time leading scorer and rebounder, leading his team to significant wins, including a PSAC title. The final series against Real Madrid includes games scheduled for June 8, 10, 12, 14 (if necessary), and 16 (if necessary).
