Mr. Earl Kassel “Pete” Johnson, 84, of Greencastle, PA, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away after a brief illness, on Saturday, July 30, 2022 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 24, 1937 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Earl K. and Mary (Fogle) Johnson.
He was employed as a truck driver for Taynton Freight Company that hauled in and out of Corning Glass Co., Greencastle and also worked several years with Zody’s Moving and Storage, Zullinger, PA.
He married Doris “Jean” Johnson June 29, 1962 in Waynesboro, PA. They made their home in Greencastle in 1968.
He was a member of Salem Church, Waynesboro.
Pete enjoyed getting outside and mowing the grass, not only at home, but also did so for many years at Salem Church. He also loved helping his wife plan and prepare the Sunday meal, when family would regularly come together.
In addition to his wife, “Jean”, he is survived by two children: his daughter, Tina M. Anderson and her husband, Rodney of Greencastle and his son, Troy K. Johnson and his wife, Cindy of Antrim Township; three grandchildren: Courtney Mull and her husband, Kody, Andy Anderson and his wife, Michelle and Storm Johnson and his wife, Erin; six great-grandchildren: Buck, Charlie, and Remi Mull, Abraham and Addison Johnson and Austin Anderson; one half-brother, Dennis Scott, Chambersburg, PA, one half-sister, Rhonda Smith, South Amherst, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, LaMar Johnson and a sister, Doris Warren.
A Celebration of Pete’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Salem Church, 4881 Salem Church Road, Waynesboro, with Pastor Brent Mangus officiating.
Inurnment will be private, at the convenience of the family.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, Wednesday afternoon, at the church.
