Edward R. Doyle 1936-2025

Edward “Ed” R. Doyle, 89, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on November 2, 2025, at his home.

Edward R. Doyle
Edward R. Doyle

Born on October 23, 1936, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Lena K. and John L. Doyle.

Ed graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1955, where he played on the Waynesboro Tigers semi-pro football team. He was also nominated for homecoming king and was known as a dapper gentleman whose wonderful personality matched his beautiful blue eyes.

After high school, Ed proudly served four years in the United States Navy.

In August of 1959, he married his lifelong partner, Glady (Coldsmith) Doyle.

Ed worked for 35 years as a supervisor at Corning Glass Works, beginning his career there when the company first opened.

After retiring, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course, traveling, summers at the beach, and winters at St. Simons Island, Georgia. His love of golf even led him to work part-time at South Mountain Golf Course, where he happily helped with mowing for several years.

He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Greencastle, American Legion Post 373, VFW Post 6319, Rescue Hose Company No. 1, and Mount Pisgah Lodge No. 443.

Ed was a good man and a devoted father who deeply cherished his grandsons. He loved attending their sporting events and was proud of the families they are raising to carry on his legacy.

He gave without asking, supported without needing thanks, and loved without condition. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and through his four great-grandsons, who will proudly carry on the Doyle name.

Ed is survived by his wife Gladys; his son, Craig Doyle (Diana); his grandsons, Cody Doyle (Brittany) and Jared Doyle (Reagan), all of Greencastle; and his great-grandsons, Chandler, Nash, Holland, and Acre. He also has one surviving sister; Pauline Buhrman of West Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Phyllis Bonebrake, Betty Monn, Katheryn Cook, Marie Toms, John C. Doyle, and Walter “Buck” Doyle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rescue Hose Company No. 1, Greencastle, PA.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family has entrusted Ed’s care to Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in McConnellsburg, PA.

Online condolences may be expressed at the funeral home’s website.
