Shippensburg University junior Emily Hangen was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Southeast Division Volleyball Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
Hangen directed a Raider offense that hit a combined .220 in weekend victories over Millersville and West Chester. She averaged 12.7 assists per set – totaling 89 overall – while also recording 23 digs, two blocks and sneaking in four kills without an error (.500).
Against Millersville, Hangen had 42 assists, eight digs and two aces. Her passing resulted in three Raiders with double-digit kills. As a result, the team hit .243 overall.
Against West Chester, Hangen directed the offense with 47 assists, 15 digs and a pair of kills, moving into fourth on SU’s career assists list (3,271), moving past Amber Schmerfeld (3,229 from 2002-04).
It is Hangen’s second conference weekly award this season and the fourth of her career. She is one of five active Raiders to have received a PSAC Athlete of the Week award during their career, joining Samantha Webber (four times, including Sept. 10 of this season), Gabriella Johnson (two times, including Oct. 15 of this season, Kendall Johnson (two times) and Gianna Sigado (Oct. 1 of this season).
