Join the Penn State Master Gardeners of Franklin County for a free Fall Garden Day event on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 9 am to 12 pm, at their Demonstration Gardens located at 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, PA, 17202.
At Fall Garden Day, there will be a fall plant sale offering a limited selection of native trees, shrubs, and perennials. Featured plants include American persimmon, black gum, willow oak, black chokeberry, St. John’s wort, arrowwood viburnum, cranberry bush viburnum, wild bergamot, Christmas fern, and little bluestem grass. A variety of pollinator-friendly plants and other garden perennials will also be available. Only cash or check payments will be accepted at this sale.
Activities and presentations will be at the Demonstration Gardens and Barn across the street from the Extension office at 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, at the historic Gass Garden near the entrance to the Extension office, and in the lower-level meeting rooms in the Ag Heritage building next door to the Extension office.
At the Information Booth, you can pick up a schedule and map of the activities. In the Demonstration Gardens throughout the morning, there will be free family-friendly (parent/guardian with youth) activities, including a scavenger hunt, and for the grownups, informational displays on composting, drip irrigation, and bulb planting. You can also take self-guided tours of our Herb, Perennial, Pollinator Friendly, Drought Tolerant, Victory (vegetable), and Woodland Gardens.
For adults, there will be two free indoor presentations; pre-registration is not required. Starting at 9:15 am, Master Gardener Tracy Snyder will present two programs about taking care of our native bees, “Bee a Good Neighbor” and “Born to Bee Wild.” Starting at 10:30 am, Master Food Preserver Judy Mountain will give a free class on using your tomato harvest and making salsa. Participants will make and take home a fresh salsa sample.
