Fannett-Metal(11-7) led 7-6 going into the bottom of the 7th but couldn’t get the final out to preserve the victory. In the bottom of the 7th, Tiger pitcher Landon Arnold retired the first batter of the inning on a strikeout.
How it happened
The next two batters reached base on infield errors to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Arnold walked the next batter to load the bases. With one out the Tigers brought the infield in and got a ground ball to the shortstop who retired the second out at the plate.
That brought up Wyatt Hershey with two outs. Hershey hit an infield ground ball that was misplayed allowing the tying and winning run to score. “Landon really threw well in relief Wyatt and deserved to get the save. We just kind of self-destructed in that last inning and Mcconnellsburg took advantage to record the victory”, Coffman said.
In the first inning, Luke Coffman led off with a double. Landon Arnold reached on an error moving Coffman to 3rd and he scored on a Wyatt Appleby RBI ground out. Arnold scored on a Rylin Sharar RBI single.
Colton Friese reached on a fielders choice and Hunter Hill drew a walk. Friese scored on a two-out RBI single by Drew Goshorn.
Hershey sat the Tigers down in order the next three innings and the Spartans finally got to Tiger Starter Wyatt Appleby in the 4th to tie the game 3-3.
The Tigers would retake the lead in the 5th. Jake Coffman led off with a walk and Luke Coffman was hit by a pitch. Landon Arnold laid down a bunt that was misplayed by the Spartans to load the bases.
Wyatt Appleby(5 RBI’s in the game) then launched a towering grand slam to left centerfield to give the Tigers a 7-3 lead. The Spartans however answered in the bottom of the 5th scoring three runs to make it 7-6 and Appleby reached his pitch limit.
Kyle Romig (3 hits in the game) had the big 2-run single with two outs.
