PSP: Fatal crash in Shippensburg claims pedestrian’s life
A fatal crash in Shippensburg claimed the life of a pedestrian Friday night in Southampton Township.
Beverly A. Myers, 69, was killed when she was hit by a mini-van while crossing Airport Road in Southhampton Township at 7:42 p.m., police said.
Myers was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cumberland County Coroner’s office.
She was crossing from the the west side of Airport Road to the east side when she was struck by a mini-van driven by Jesse D. Mixell, 39, of Shippensburg. The crash happened just west of Southport Lane and close to the intersection with Whitmer Road, police said.
The van hit Myers with its right front side, then went off the east-bound shoulder of Airport Road; and across Whitmer Road before coming to rest on that road’s south shoulder facing south. Myers was thrown onto the east-bound should of Airport Road by the impact.
Police are looking for possible witnesses to the crash. Witnesses can contact Pennsylvania State Police Carlisle barracks at 717-249-2121.
Mixell and his passenger, Stephanie, Weigle, 36, Shippensburg, were not injured in the crash. The Chrysler mini-van had moderate damage, police said.
Police were assisted at the scene by Shippensburg Emergency Medical Services and Fire Department personnel, as well as the coroner’s office.
