Fayetteville man critically injured

A Fayetteville man is in critical condition at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill today as a result of injuries suffered in a crash on Orchard Drive yesterday.

George Horn, 65, was trapped inside his car after it crashed into a tree at about 3:15 p.m. Thursday. It took first responders 11 minutes to free him. Life Lion took him to Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill.

Chambersburg Police Department reported Horn was driving east on Orchard toward Wayne Ave in Chambersburg when the crash happened. After hitting the tree, the car spun around and went down a slight embankment. Horn was the car’s sole occupant.

The crash happened on the south side of Orchard Drive and west of the railroad tracks at the Orchard Drive intersection with the railroad tracks. The crash temporarily closed the rail line running through Chambersburg as first responders worked to rescue Horn from his car.

Firefighters deployed a 1 3/4-inch hand line across the railroad tracks near the Orchard Avenue crossing. Officials asked CSX to shut the tracks down while rescuers worked to get Horn out of the car and to the waiting Life Lion helicopter. As of Friday morning, Horn’s condition was critical.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
