Fire and Rescue Reports: Car Into Animal Shelter, School Bus-Car Crash, Chicken Coop Fire
Fire and rescue crews were kept busy this week, responding to a school bus-car crash, a crash that put the front end of a car into a building at an animal shelter and smoke but no fires.
Franklin Fire Company
Franklin Fire Company responded to a crash at Cumberland Valley Humane Society at 2 p.m.
Friday. On the scene, they found an auto had crashed into a building on the animal shelter property. Crews found no injuries, and none of the resident pets were harmed as a result of the crash. Rescue personnel secured the vehicle and turned the building over to the owners for repairs.
Squad 41 was on scene of a landing zone at 5164 Philadelphia Avenue earlier Friday for air medical to transport an injured person to a nearby hospital. Details were not available Friday evening.
The Franklins were called to the scene of a car-school bus crash at St. Thomas-Williamson Road at Keller Road in St. Thomas Township at just after 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. A St. Thomas Fire Company (Co.18) unit and a Sta.4 POV responder used a combi-tool and spread the drivers door open just before the Franklin’s arrival. The squad crew assisted with patient removal & packaging.
There were no kids on the bus at the time of the crash.
Chambersburg Fire Department
Chambersburg Fire Department responded to several calls Wednesday.
Firefighters were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm at Knouse Foods at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday. System was having routine testing and maintenance done which alerted the fire department.
The department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Lincoln Way East and Eighth Street Wednesday. There were no serious injuries reported.
CFD and surrounding fire departments were dispatched at 3:20 p.m. for reported smoke in a house at 513 Hood Street. First arriving crews found unattended cooking that led toburnt food.
In addition to these calls the Chambersburg Fire DepartmentAmbulance responded to an additional 14 other emergencies throughout the day.
MMPW Fire Company
MMP&W Fire Company responded to a report of a chicken shed on fire near a barn. 8:59 a.m. Thursday at 10311 Churchill Road in Peters Township. Firefighters arriving at the scene found a fire in a chicken coop was already out.
