Fire Averted at Chambersburg Waste Paper Facility

Photo and information obtained from Franklin Fire Company

A potential crisis was averted yesterday when a small fire broke out in a paper shredding truck operated by Chambersburg Waste Paper Co. while it was operating in the Waynesboro area. The incident occurred early yesterday and was quickly managed by local fire services in the jurisdiction.

Upon the truck’s return to the company’s main plant, necessary precautions were taken to off-load the vehicle safely. The Franklin Fire Company was requested to be on standby to prevent any possible flare-ups during this process.

Highlighting the company’s commitment to safety, Chambersburg Waste Paper trucks are equipped with an internal sprinkler system. Additionally, the trucks feature an externally accessible Fire Department Connection (FDC), allowing fire services to efficiently connect a 1.5-inch hose directly to the system and apply water without needing to enter the vehicle.
