Franklin County Employee of the Month Recognized for Exceptional Service

The Franklin County Commissioners honored Erica Kershner as the December 2024 Employee of the Month during their public meeting on January 8. Kershner, who joined the Franklin County Area Agency on Aging in December 2019, currently serves as an Aging Care Supervisor I.

Kershner was selected for the award by the Special Thanks and Recognition (STAR) Committee, which reviewed 18 nominations for December, with seven specifically praising Kershner’s dedication. Her exemplary management of the annual Medicare open enrollment period and the county’s PA MEDI program, particularly while the primary PA MEDI counselor was on maternity leave, earned her this recognition.

Nominations highlighted Kershner’s ability to adapt and efficiently handle additional responsibilities during the open enrollment season. Despite increased workload, she maintained a high level of service, ensuring that as many seniors as possible could navigate Medicare changes effectively. Colleagues noted her kind and caring approach, not only towards the aging population she serves but also towards her coworkers, often going above and beyond to assist them.

Throughout the challenging seven-week open enrollment period, Kershner chose not to work remotely, opting instead to be physically present in the office to better support her team and the community. Her efforts included rearranging schedules and accommodating extra appointments, showcasing her commitment and flexibility.

The Franklin County Commissioners expressed their gratitude to Kershner for setting a high standard of knowledge, leadership, and excellence, and for her significant contributions to both the employees and residents of Franklin County.
